Anyone Have Problems with Cricket Legs Poking Cham's Mouth?

SaveFerris Oct 20, 2003 04:31 PM

Some website (chameleon journal I think) mentions how cricket legs tend to poke thru thier mouth and cause injury. Anyone seen this?

I've never had it happen and I don't think I've ever heard of it happening. I think I read it too somewhere but that's it and I've only heard that one time. I wouldn't worry about crickets... Maybe a really big grasshopper with the spines they have on their legs or a large roach (hisser) might cause problems because of the spined legs also. Probably would cause problems while being swallowed.

I think if the cricket is the right size it shouldn't cause any problem as they seem to get most of it with one bite. Luna has been eating some rather big cockroaches and I feed them to her upside down (the roach - not Luna! LOL!!!) in a cup so they don't crawl out. I have watched those spiny legs kicking but she takes it head first and has no problem.

As Tyler said it is probably a rare occurrence so I wouldn't worry about it. Just make sure it is an appropriate size.
