first I think I have every thing ready for my new dragon I have the tank set up 110 in basking site 80 in the cool end of the tank I am using newspaper as a substrate until he gets big enough for sand. my question is I was reading in an early post about dragon yummies I was wondering if its ok to feed them that and salad as there main diet plus mabey five or six live crickets a day dusted with calcium. to give them something to chase or do they need more live crickets than that thanks in advance for the advice.

are you buying a baby dragon? from what i have read those dragon yummies arent going to provide enough protein to raise a baby, besides one of the main ingredients is spinach, something we should use sparingly. if you want to use that sort of diet perhaps rep cal pellets and salad is the way to go. some people here do raise dragons on pellets and salads alone. I myself feed my dragons salads, pellets and crickets along with many other feeder insects, i feel variety is very important as are live feeders especially for growing babies. If you are going to go the salad and pellets route i would reccomend buying a dragon that is fed pellets at the breeder which would make it must easier on you then converting a dragon to pellets, try

Best and cheapest way that I have found is to get them feeding on Rep-Cal pellets, so you are not tied down to crickets. I have 3 adults eating them and a clutch of babies that love them. Have you looked into buying a dragon that was raised on pellets? If you buy a cricket fed one, then there will be a transition period that he/she will have to go through. If you buy one that was raised that way, then you are set.

If you do try to change your dragon, read back though some posts on this board for good information on converting your new dragon...
Good luck and keep us posted…
