First off, Rey is a good looking boy. It's no difference to Rey whether he 'knows' another gecko or not. They're instinctual animals, not people. Don't take that the wrong way, I still anthropomorphize mine.
I think you need to wait until he gets older, or get another cage. You've hit on the reasons I say this. If you get another male, they will eventually start fighting, or pressuring each other into one of them not eating. I've seen a male who was housed with another one and he just wasted away to bones. He didn't even start eating again after being separated.
If Rey is in fact male, and you get a female around his size, they're likely to breed next year before she is ready and you'll constantly struggle to keep weight on her until Sep/Oct next year when they natuarally stop breeding for the year. The egg-bearing/laying alone could be too much strain on her small body.
For now, until you get another cage or Rey grows up a little, enjoy him for the great little guy that I'm sure he is. Good luck.
