....all those damn irresponsible reptile keepers who rely on their "pet" for a personality. We all ran into these, and we've all tried to educate the best we can.Now another place is calling for a ban on ownership of herps,Chicago. There is a proposed amendment to their municipal code for a ban.(contact the Chicago Herp Society at www.chicagoherp.org).I've been living in B'ham,Al. for a few years now,and recently there was a ban in a little hick town not far from here.Seems a total moron had a black-neck spitter escape.Huge media coverage followed.Of course they never talked to a "true" expert, just the speculators. You need a license for everything here BUT getting a venomous species??We all need to be more vocal,I know I do,to save our hobby/lifestyle/passion.More and more bans are going into effect, and can we really blame the local politicians and the Humane Society in trying to "save" us?I've been guilty of selling a python to someone that didn't know anything.Even though I informed him of care/husbandry/websites for any problems, the animal suffered.I still blame myself. What can we do??I need to know how I/all of us can help more.Police ourselves more.Especially do something about the local reptile peddler who has the mite infested imports, looking for a quick buck from us.Do we need to try and get our hobby licensed?Renewed yearly?Issued based on enclosures/husbandry knowledge?I know it's harsh, but I think we are in danger of losing our freedom to be that mini biologist/zoologist/herpetologist in our pastime more now than any time before. What do all of you think??Thanks for your time.Sinc.,Jason.......................
