new thayeri

pal Oct 20, 2003 05:50 PM

I have kept a variety of snakes (corn, rough green, garter, hognose, pythons, Rainbow boas, and vine snakes) for the last couple of years but was never really attracted to king snakes. I went to the San Diego show this weekend and ended up leaving with a beautiful little gold and copper Thayeri. Now I'm totally sold on these guys! In the future I will need at least 3 or 4 more --mmmm, a nice milksnake phase would be a nice addition. This is a great little snake!

I agree with Zach. Thayeri are so pretty, they stay relatively small, great temperment, and if you breed them you will get lots of pleasant suprises! I got a pair from Dan Vermilya earlier this summer and I'm in love with them.

IMHO thayeri are one of the best snakes to keep. I currently have 3.3 and the only reason I haven't bought more is because I'll hopefully be producing some of my own next spring, and I'll probably hold back 2 or 3 of the best for myself.

I have been producing some Vivid Reptile bloodline animals for 3 years now and they just keep getting better and better. I got so greedy last year I held back 3.3. This year was much the same. I held back 3.4. I currently have 2.4 breeders as well as some other yearlings. They are addicting and it is much like X mas at hatching time.
Here is a sample of what I held back this year.
