veilds and misting???

blueta Oct 20, 2003 06:12 PM

I just purchased a pair of 4 month old veilds at the last hamburg show. The woman I purchased them from said that veilds actually don't like to be misted. She said she teaches all her babies to drink from a bowl. I wasn't sure if I believed her at first but to my suprise one of the ones at the show came down and shot it's tongue into the water bowl. She also said misting was bad for them because they actually prefer a dry climate. I haven't personally seen mine drink. Is there any way to tell if they are hydrated? I know you do a pinch test in snakes, but that seems unlikely for chams. Let me know what you guys know. Thanks.

I have seen my veiled sip drops of water that i spray. Sometimes i spray a few drops above her and she sneaks up under it and grabs drops off leaves (not shooting her tongue). Sometimes she scampers away when i mist tho, guess that means shes not thirsty. You can tell how hydrated a cham is by checking if the white part of thier poop (urates) is WHTIE and not yellow. Thats all i know about that.

Ive heard you can train your cham to drink out of a bowl but it has to be moving water. you can put a bubbling rock in it (fish tank kind) or something. I dont know if they will drink still water.

The ones at the show actually drank out of standing water withought anything moving it. I didn't believe it until I saw it myself. Anyway, I'll check the urich acid tonight. Thanks.
