Ok, this is my collard, Sam. The dark spot pointed out in the picture, is a hard spot and appears on both sides, left and right. I'm not sure what it is, but it scares me. The spot is hard, and some skin seems to be peeling. I do not think sam is shedding, because it appears on both sides, and the spot looks bad. Please help me out!?

a spot under neck, almost looked cancerous, pretty gross, we told him to get him to a vet, it was some sort of infection, and he was given, what he refered to as a miracle cream, and it went away. That spot , although hard to see clearly, looks to me like the same sort of thing. I personally would make an appointment to have that checked. Hope hes fine soon, let us know, hes a cutie. Take care, Eve

...is the location of the "antehumeral mite pocket" and is an area that is designed to 'bait' mites it seems. I've never had an infestation on my collareds, so I have no idea what sort of damage or irritation they might cause. Anyway, it appears "something' is happening in the pockets, first check him out for mites, particularly if he is wild caught or has been housed with any other herps who may have been carriers.

Well he's not wild caught, i've had him since he was 3-4inches in length, little thing. Got him from petsmart. And there are no mites, he hasn't been housed with anything else, environment is clean, still eats alot(healthy eating habbits).

I would put neosporin on it. That should soften the skin up so he can shed it away.
Good luck.

mites, petshop owner aint all that clean!anyway this is caused by mites and is one of the ways i check collareds to see if the have mitesif u peel back the scab, although its not a scab more like a waxxy cover u will find alot of mites,it seems to keep the mites off the rest of the collareds body,id be really interested to know more about these "pockets"because collareds are the only species i have seen this in before.Im serious when i say ive only ever bought 1 collared without mites and i didnt realise that no-one noticed this before, the "spot" appears yellow and is quite firmly stuck to the body, but if u soak it it softens up enough to be pulled off.I really dont understand the purpose other than it seems to keep the mites localised and not spread all overhope this helps yah
