Here's my fresh newbie idea for lighting my 92 corner vivarium.
I'm going to keep my 250W metal halide pendant, and just raise it above the vivarium to an appropriate level. This level is yet to be determined.
I may have to place frosted acrylic on top of the vivarium to further diffuse the light, again, yet to be determined.
Here is the fun part. I'm going to cut random sort of leaf shaped or zig zaggy shapes out of semi opaque acrylic, metal, or some other material and make a pattern than will sit above the vivarium, and directly below the light. This will block much of the light from the halide. The net effect I hope will be dappled sunlight as if shining through a canopy.
I will rotate this plate every few days so that the pattern of dappled light is more random.
I will play with materials and patterns until I get the effect I'm picturing in my head. PC or flourescent lighting just doesn't look like sunlight, so I'm hoping I can find a way to get the metal halide to work without heat issues. If you've ever seen a halide light on a reef tank vs a PC light, you know what I mean.
Any thoughts?
Cheers
Jim
