who would win in a fight?

iheartalligator Oct 20, 2003 08:11 PM

a group of artists that I am a consultant is doing a series of art projects dealing with alligators and they asked me to do some research into the purely hypothetical question of who would win in a fight an alligator or a panther. the fight takes place in the desert. does anyone have any ideas about the outcome?

LOL, that reminds me of a year-long argument we had in high school: Who would win in a fight, a wolverine or a baboon? My money would have been on the wolverine by a long shot.

I would def. bet on the Croc.

The panther would win. For many reasons. The following are not the least of which: Because the alligator would be out of its element, it's optimal element being water. Because on land the panther (as any large cat species) would be very agile and fast. Because the panther's visual acuity and advanced mental ability to process imagery at a much more rapid pace it could easily out manuvuer and outsmart the gator until the gator was exhausted and could be finished off. Because in the desert the cat can thermoregulate and cool itself and the gator would overheat in short time. (you didn't say the scenario took place in the day time, but the reference to "the desert" implies "hot place" and so I assumed it was day time.

Fun mind game, but the panther would beat the gator paws-down.

Human "progress" equates to nature's demise.

I agree with Brian, but why exactly is an alligator being painted in the desert?

Well, for that matter, why are they even fighting? If they weren't starving to death they'd probably be very happy to leave each other alone.
Well, maybe a BIG gator would eat a small panther, but that wouldn't really be a fight.

Peter: It's OK, I'll handle it. I read a book about something like this.
Brian: Are you sure it was a book? Are you sure it wasn't NOTHING?
