Can 2 males be kept together? np

Tigergenesis Oct 21, 2003 09:52 AM

I can't seem to decide between a Mali or a Saharan so I thought why not both. Only I want males, but am wondering if they can be kept together?

No, they can not be kept together. Depending on age and size of both, several things can occur. You have to remember these animals are used to living in "wide open spaces". They are very territorial. The bigger of the two will be more dominate and possibly hurt your smaller Uro and it may stunt the growth of the smaller Uro. The only time it is okay to house them together is a male and female during breeding season. Even then you have to keep a close watch on them. I hope this helps. Also have you had a Uro before??? There are several things you will want to learn about and have ready for your new friend or friends. Rather than write it all here a great sight to go to is Deerfernfarms.com . If you have already explored all the info that is an absolute must for a Uro owner then I am sorry for being pushy. Happy Herping

Thanks for confirming what I already thought. I've done a lot of reading and researching on Uros in preparation for buying my first one in the next month. Sometimes I just like to ask a question and get an answer from real people with experience rather than relying totally on care sheets, books, etc. I've often found that the care sheets/books are just copies of one another and that people on forums such as this are at times more knowledgable. I have found DeerFernFarms to be very helpful. Thanks again!

If you want the look of a male mali you could get a male-mimic female mali, and a male saharan. so they would get along. I house all of my uros together with no problems, but my males are separate. I have never seen a female show agression towards another female. So if you want you could get a male saharan and a male-mimic female mali.

I dont think we can just rely in what we read in INTERNET!For instance, im raising some Salamanders a friend of mine gave me.I read in SEVERAL sites, written by EXPERTS that that specie of Salamanders are VERY aquatic and need a cage temperature of 60F!Well im raising them at a room temperature of 78-84F in a cage filled with soil and they are doing great!More fat impossible! My friend(the one that gave them to me) was doing that before too.He told me he never put them in water!.

About uros i always put a bowl of water inside their cage!I think its very hard to their bodies to tolerate a 120F temperature without water!I know they are reptiles from the desert! But deserts are not only sand and high temperatures!I lived in Egypt for 4 years and there are the oasis, the winters when the temp is MUCH lower and if you dig the sand (as UROS love to do) you can find some humidity.
My Bearded loves to soak in water so perhaps my uros will do that too when they feel dehydrated.
