I could use some advice from an experienced owner

lizardwoman Oct 21, 2003 11:01 AM

My tegu is having problems shedding. She has patches on her back which do not come off. Have tried shed ease, and soaking, although I admit to not having soaked her alot (twice).
Do any of you have a remedy for shedding problems?

Thanks
LW

You should always either provide enough humidity for that to not be a problem, or make sure that the water bowl is large enough for soaking/swimming. I have large cat litter pans in my enclosures but have seen galvanized steel tubs in others cages. Moisture would be my guess as the culprit. I am by no means "all knowing", but a little more info on your setup and history of this animal might help.

tegus get shedding problems when their humidity is not high enough, and they dont get enough Vitamin C. so make the humidity about 60-70% for now. soak your tegu for 30mins in lukewarm water, 2x a day. see if that helps. and feed your tegu more fruits that are high in Vitamin C.

I've been feeding my Arg. B&W Kiwi and have had no problems with shedding.

continue the soaking and i have also heard of people using small amounts of baby/veggy oil. just rub a small amount on the shed and it should help it come off. also keep you humidity up and try feeding some fruits if they will take them.
