New Nile Monitor Not Eating

Cesar Oct 21, 2003 11:50 AM

Hello, all. I am writing on behalf of a friend who just purchased a Nile Monitor at the recent IRBA show in San Diego. He is a bit concerned, because it has not eaten since he took him home. He drinks water, basks sometimes and hides in his box the rest of the time. Is this normal for them? I have never had a monitor before, so I was not able to help him. Please advise. He is worrying a little about his new addition, as we all would I am sure. Thanks!

I was @ the Chicago show. The Niles I saw were in what looked like little clear butter tubs, with nothing in there but about fifteen other niles. How long did they travel the country in these conditions? To a hachling nile or an adult this would be a very stressfull event. So my guess would be that the monitor is stressed out. Keep a close eye on the temperature, keep the water clean, keep the crickets flowing, and Do not touch the Nile, leave the thing alone..... until it is more active. If the health decreases, contact somewon who is proficiant with herps. That's my guess. Good luck.
