advice for dealing with over-dominant male cwd

keelsey Oct 21, 2003 02:18 PM

hey gang, i have a pair of 12" total length cwd's, and my male is super hot headed. i feed them in a seperate tank, so she can eat, but still eats very little, 1 mealworm every now and then is all i can get out of her after trying crickets worms veggies, the works. they are in a 5ft long 3ft high 2 ft deep enclosure with several basking spots and a pool of water(lg cat litter box)
but my male chases her often bobs his head constantly, waves at her his reflection, and even me when he sees me shake my leg across the room on the couch! i want 2 or 3, so would another female help? a bigger female? tha guy at the pet store said he would trade him out for another male, or give me another female, but he is so healthy, and hand feeds and everything, any advice would be much appreciated, thanks, sorry so long but i wanted to pre answer some questions ahead of time, keelsey

ok dont take what im about to tell u to serously. i had this same prblem with my beardeds. in the lizard world it is really survival of the fittest. now the male is a big bully like my male beardie. the female is basically in depression (yes this can happen) think of it as living with a bully all day. i no if i was getting shoved out of basking spots and have food taken away i would be depresed. now yr female may be giving up on life. its very uncommen that this happens but it did happen to me. put the female in a sperate tank for about a week or 2. then reintroduce them. if the male still is bullying the female, theres nothing u can do. the male is just a jerk and wil lrefuse to live with any CWD. this is not for sure tho.
