KInda stupid question

herpfood Oct 21, 2003 02:23 PM

Hello all,
OK, right now I'm in sort of in a kind of contreversial state. Recently I've rescued three baby snapping turtles from different situations, and well I've sort of condemed myself to be there slave for the winter(too late to release them now, will have to next spring).

Well my ONE firebellied toad is in I believe to be a 15gallon or more right now. I also have a common garter juvy in a ten gallon right now. What I'd like to do is put all three snappers in the ten gallon, creating a very natural setup. I'd then put the snake in the 15gallon. Better for him anyways!

But that would leave the firebellied toad with no cage for now...
Being that its near brumating time for him anyways, could I put him in a smaller cage( per say less than a ten gall ) for now. Being that he will be less active anyways. It will just be a temporary tank, maybe till around spring, but most likely earlier.

Oh I don't know, maybe I'll split my fifteen gallon.

Please don't say you should have thought about that before... I know that already.

THANKS
Herpfood

10 gallon tank for 3 snappers? You need a 50 gal or something for just one baby snapper...for 3 you should have even larger. Go buy a tank for the snappers...or make one, and leave the firebelly where it is. Andy

Andy, I've read from several reliable resources that several baby snappers can be house din a ten gall. Its not likes its a life home. These anppers are 6cm maximun with tail. NOT BIG!

50 gallon each for maybe a juvy,
but not these guys,
I undersatnd your concern though,

Whatever works for you I guess. I have been keeping turtles for ever and would not even keep one turtle in a 10, much less 3. Andy

You should go with the snappers in teh 15 and the snake in teh 10 and it's fine to have a firebellied toad in as small as a 5 gallon tank. Keep in mind snapping turtles can and will fight if they get in each otehrs way so the more space the better and they grow very fast.
