a few questions from a new user

I have an almost 2-year old male beardie. Got him when he was 5 months old. He used to be a very hearty eater/shedder, but last winter I noticed that he slowed down. He laid around/slept a lot and ate even less. I've read that this can happen, but he's never really come out of it - especially eating-wise. He only eats every few days. Is this normal? He's really not interested in crickets anymore, either, ever since I fed him king worms. But I've read that the crickets are more nutritious. Any suggestions?

Also, lately he has been hyperactive. He goes crazy in his cage. What's going on? He throws his substrate all over the place, steps in his food, and runs around like crazy!

Any suggestions/ideas would be great. I still consider myself a newbie at this.

Notes: 40 gallon breeder tank, crushed walnut substrate, 14-hour light cycle (6 a.m. - 8 p.m.), basking area, sheltered area

I would ditch the crushed walnut substrate....maybe it is an impaction thing that is going on? Also feeding worms may get a dragon a bit spoiled and they may not want to go after the crickets anymore. Check your temps(110 approx) and feed more veggies/pellets/crix/occasional worms and you might want to bring him to a vet to see if there is any possibily of impaction. Should get a fecal done as well. Also some warm baths may help him poo.
