humidifiers

taralynn_hughes Oct 21, 2003 06:40 PM

We baught a Sunbeam Ultrasonic humidifier and after having it running for over an hour, it hadn't raised the humidity at all. So, we returned it.
For all of you who use humidifiers, what brand/type do you use?

Thanks

How big of a room are you using it in? I have the same problem last winter when the swamp cooler wasn't making my humidity. I had one running all the time and it didn't do too much. The less openings in the room the better. You should try to seal off a room good and have a small fan running so that the humid air stays in the room. I'm not sure a different brand would be much better. The more water they use the more moisture they're putting out. The key would be to find one with a HUGE reservoir and just leave it on. I had mine set up on a timer so it would come on for 2 hrs off for 2 hrs.

I have a holmes from sears. Its great, it has a built in 'humidistat' so that you set it for a specific humidity and when it reaches that level it shuts itself off. I leave it on all day and it regulates the room just fine. Its just a wet sponge filter thing under a fan but it does the job. It works harder if i have a window open (even a crack) in the other room but it works fine.

I've used the Sunbeam ultrasonics for years. You just got a bad one. Once in a while I've had one stop producing fog. The fan runs but no fog appears. Any ultrasonic humidifier would produce a very visible fog almost immediately after being turned on. If you had a humidity gauge near the unit while it was running you would see a big increase. The store should let you exchange it for one that works.

Ya, I use a Sunbeam too, and it works fine for me. Like Carlton said, they produce a fog, so if yours isn't doing that you just got a defective one and should be able to get a new one.

...it is getting cold in NH and our heat really dries the air out so what I was thinking of doing was to keep a couple of vaporizers (warm mist going in the room (not near the cages in case of burn) and then the cool mist in or near the cages a few times day. I figure the warm will help to maintain humidity in the room and the cool as direct/supplemental mist. I was going to set this up tonight.
