My first ball python and Her skin looks funny. Help...

Smuffin Oct 21, 2003 09:01 PM

I just got her at the Northshore Reptile show on Saturday. Her skin looks like it is peeling or something, but i soaked her and nothing changes. This is my fist ball python ever and I don't know whats wrong with her skin or what I should do. Your help in this matter would greatly be appreciated....

yes, its a shed. and check your cage too, it looks like your going to get a few suprises (poop).

How many times do your BP's crap?

LeeFobes Oct 21, 2003 10:33 PM

urates usually 2. one long turd, and another one where it looks like it breaks off. quit being smart.

mykee Oct 22, 2003 12:03 PM

That's one. Either that, or when I went this morning, I had 12or so craps in 3 minutes.

Yes, yes it was. It proved my point.

If it is a shed then why doesn't it come off when i rub it??

Lucas Oct 22, 2003 12:01 AM

Who did you get it from? Does it look like the scales are discolored or anything? If it is just shed you can put a moist hidebox or some other form of a way for it to get humidity so it can finish it off. Hope you are enjoying your first ball...it probably won't be your last.

How do I make a moist hidebox?? And I got it from the guy that had the yellow burmesse python. On the same side as the huge turtles.. What did you get? I also got a ghost and Normal corn there. If this is a shed then why when i rub it , it will not come off?

Lucas Oct 22, 2003 08:49 PM

You can make one using paper towels, moss, or any other material that absorbs water well and just put it under a hidebox in the cage. If it looks like loose skin sometimes it may not come off as you rub it...if you look closely does it look to be discolored scales? If you're really worried about it you may just want to take it to a vet just to get it checked out...although they are quite expensive. I know the LSU vet school deals with reptiles...I have an appointment to go to on Tuesday, but I dont really think it should be a problem that should involve a vet...its most probably just shed and just give it some time to come off naturally.

I got a couple balls, a chameleon, a water dragon, and some leapord geckos.

P.S. I'm not an expert so if I'm wrong on anything, anyone can feel free to correct me.
