Hey "monitor101"....

smaug May 28, 2003 10:18 PM

It is quite obvious that you are new to monitors and very excited about it...this is great. However please be careful about answering some other newbie's questions until you have experienced these anmials a little more for yourself. By simply regurgitating information you have read elsewhere you may inadvertantly steer someone in the wrong direction. (And if you are not careful you may very well unleash the wrath of some of the forum curmudgeons...you'll figure out who they are soon enough.) While the forums here and elsewhere are a great place to start in your monitor research, none of this comes close to actual first person experience with the animals.

Best of luck to you and your new timors....

I don't think it is appropriate for me to classify people on the forum for you. You'll learn soon enough who offers more reliable and experience backed information. (Some nicely, some not.) Heck you may soon become one yourself!

Hi, I agree with what you said. I am sure I come across as one of those people who does it not so nicely at times. However I am now trying to make a conscience choice not to answer so many questions. Have I bred monitors? Yes and I do. Have I kept many species? Yes and I have bred a few and continue to. However, I know that in a few years I will look back and realize I didn't know what I was saying. There are people on the forums that give advice all day long that do not have experience with what they are saying. I am not speaking of simple husbandry, those questions are fairly easy to answer. However when someone gives incubation advice but has never incubated eggs that is the sad part, the part that hurts newbies and oldies alike. There are many people on this forum giving advice who simply won't be into monitors in a few years, because the fad has worn off. I still have yet to prove that. We will see what I am doing and have done in 30 years. Maybe only I know.

Cheers
