:
but it wont..
not to mention all your animals would be infected with all sorts of parasites (internal and external)..
NOT worth the time or money to even try it.. just stick with petstore mice all together!
Should be able to....

Why bring wild animals into your beeding? It is something I work hard to avoid. They bring inernnal and external parasites, disease (both for other rodents and potentially you and your family), poor bloodlines and behavioral problems (such as jumping and biting). It took thousands of generations of selective breeding for litter size, health and vigor, ease in birthing, ease in handling, and other traits to develope the feeders we have today. Why go backwards?
BTW, I can't stress the health risks to you and you family enough. There is no reason to take that risk, even if you think it is slim, with mice costing less than a couple of bucks.

.
You know....just thought I'd point out to everyone here that asking a question and doing what the question is referring to are 2 different things. A question was asked, can a wild mouse breed with a pet store mouse. It's a yes or no answer. There was never anything mentioned like, "Do you think it's wise to breed a wild caught mouse with a pet mouse?" or "What are the disease implications if I did this?". Rather than implying wrongdoing, the question should be answered objectively, don't you think??

Quite right! I forgot to say that I don't know. I never tried because of the reasons I listed. But I think I would be remiss if a friend of mine asked me and I didn't bring up the serious reasons not to do it. My appologies if I came on a little strong.

I have the mice in different cages; I just wondered if they could breed because one is a male and the other is a female. Also, what is the hanta virus(or whatever it was called). Thanks for all the posts and the knowledge that you imparted to me.
Hanta virus is the disease that killed several American Indians in the 4 corners area (where New Mexico, Colorado, Utah and Arizona come together) 5 or 6 (?) years ago. Rodents in New Mexico and California have also tested positive for Bubonic Plague.

I would think it would depend on the mice. Mice you get at the pet store are Mus musculus, right? This is House mice. Field mice here are voles which are Microtines and Deer Mice (the typical Hanta carriers) are Peromyscus genus.
I would love to see documentation that the different genus cross. Heck, I would like to know what they would look like.
As an aside. I would think, successful or not. That any wild type would be very high strung and less productive than lab type mice.
