Help!

SubSpeciesBoy Oct 21, 2003 10:43 PM

Hey, went in to change the monitors water, as I do every day, the water dish is a deep red color, I can only assume from blood. He (Puff the 16 inch sav.) is living in a 120 gallon aquarium, 78 ambient, 130 basking, he has his burrow, he is a good eater, this is the only problem I have had for a while. Any help would be grand. Thanks, Patrick

I have no idea. I can only hope some expert here can tell you what's going on.

Put some money out and see a vet NOW!!! No one on this forum can make a reliable diagnosis. He should take the stool into be looked at.

I dont get it. If your kid had blood in its diaper would you get on the internet, or would you take it to ER??

Just my personal peeve...

sit around and do nothing or get on the internet and do what you could? I'm guessing a vet isn't the option at 11 pm.

We have a 24 hr clinic about a mile away. Point taken.

If my kid was having this problem, I would go to the emergency room...but one problem, they dont cater to reptiles. Plus, The only herp vet around here works at the zoo, and pretty much works about one hour a week. I was just wondering if anyone here had experienced this and had some advice, I will of course, be trying my darndest tomorrow to get him to the vet, if he makes it through the night. Thanks for understanding, Patrick.

Im used to people saying stuff to the effect of "My savannas head is falling off, should I take it to a vet, or do you know of a glue that could work?"
I do rescue. I was just given a baby bosc the other day that was "not feeling well". It was PARALYZED from the hind legs down!! The people actually that that it might get better!!! By the time I got it it had absolutely NO hind leg mass. The muscles had atrophied! God knows how long it had been living liket that. I had it euthanized within an hour.

I didnt mean to sound harsh. Its just that so many people dont take pet ownership seriously. Im sorry if I jumped to conclusions.

All the best, and good luck!

Hey man, try and get him to ANY vet today and get a fecal done. That will at least let you know if it's an internal parasite problem. If it's not, you'll need to make decisions from there, but any kind of internal bleeding from a herp is serious stuff. Good luck!

This is not a Vet. medicine forum. If those exsist, go there for help.
You really have to understand, when you own a living animal, you "OWN" it. Its your responsibility. As in, own up to the responsibility.

I do not believe, a responsible vet. would dish out information over the internet. The would be foolish. The reason is, there can be many many things that cause whatever the monitors problem is, if any. How a vet decides a course of action is to first, see the animal. Then take tests to determine the problem. NOT GUESSING, over the internet.

So asking hobbyists to help you is very very chancy at best. You only course is to see a vet as soon as possible. If you cannot, then call a vet, if you cannot, that own up to that responsibility yourself. Please this is not meant to be mean, its the truth and best course of action. In fact, its really your only reasonal course of action. Remember, your are dealing with another animals life. Do whats right. F
