fecal test came out clear.. (SO NOW WHAT?)

spikedsparkles Oct 22, 2003 12:08 AM

Ok as with my last post my adult gecko has stoped eating, and is now starting to loose weight.. I finally convenced my parents to drive 3 hours to the closest herp vet. The fecal test came out clear. He said just to wait because she really wasn't that skinny. Now i'm sorry but he's starting to look like he's lost about 25-35% of his origonal body weight. And i can't convence my parents to drive this 3 hour trip agin. I can't tell you how long it took me to get them to go the first time. And we got no where with that trip. So what do ya'll recomend that i do? I've tryed pedialight

bacterial, fungal, or any number of other organisms that are out there that a basic fecal does not catch!

Could be genetic too.

Lot's of things to consider.

It's possible for any parasites in the poop to die during such a long car ride.

So what should i do?

They don't have to specialize in herps. Any good vet will be trained to identify parasites in fecals. I'd still call ahead of time to check that they see reptiles.

One fecal might not reveal all the problems that are there, even if you provide a good sample. It's possible that no eggs or oocysts were shed in that particular poop sample.
