My new painted turtle

iturnrocks Oct 22, 2003 07:50 AM

Here is a photo of my new guy. Hes slightly larger than my other one, and now I believe my old one is probably a female, or else the new one was just really happy to be here. Also comparing tails, she seems to be different. I believe ill need to rework the basking area now.

Here is a photo I took quickly while my new turtle yawned. Or maybe he was just opening his mouth for no reason. I didnt have time to focus properly, I just had to click, so it didnt turn out perfect, but not too bad.

I have a turtle exactly like yours. I acquired it from a pet shop in Beckley, WV maybe 3 months ago. Did yours come from there also? Yours appears to be a male ... don't you think? Mine is also.

I acquired mine from a lake in kansas. I would never buy a turtle from a pet store.

Well ... lemme tell ya ... I didn't WANT to buy my guy from the pet store but he had a huge tear or bite on his neck from which the muscles were hanging out. The wound looked really fresh. I felt sorry for him and thought I'd try to fix him up. I kept him dry except for short dips in clean water and frequently put triple antibiotic ointment on the mess and after a couple of weeks, he was fine. There's not even a scar where the tear was. He's very friendly and handsome and eats well. I feel very lucky to have him, pet store or not. Worked out this time.

Im not saying no one should buy from a pet store, I know not everyone can catch their own. But since I can, I do.
