What kind of setup do Gargoyles need?

christinaK Oct 22, 2003 08:48 AM

My husband has had geckos before ,so he has an idea about what they need. We were at a show in Nabraska just this past weekend and he got me a baby Gargoyle gecko. They told us what to feed it , but what works best? I also would like to know what the best setup for a single baby is? Thanks for any help you can give me.

What age do they need to be to tell if it is a male or female? Thanks

There really is no "best" way, there are several ways to raise you r gargoyle. This is true for many reptiles, it's a matter of personal preference and what works for you. If your baby accepts crix, a diet of crix and supplemented nectar babyfood is fine. If it doesn't eat crix, no worries. You can raise and maintain your gecko on a diet of a babyfood mix. 2 jars of fruit to 1 jar of meat works. This would need to supplemented with calcium with d3 and a vitamin supp. There is also the commercially available Gargoyle diet by t-rex(what I use to raise my rhacs). All diets work effectively. As for caging, "less is more" works for me. I keep young rhacs in critter keeper cages with a small piece of egg crate and a wood dowel "branch" with paper towel on the bottom.
good luck

Especially with the “less is more” issue. Oh I got my shipment of the egg crates and started using them, works great. Also got some rolls of the brown packaging paper to line the cages with. Thanks for the uline addy.

Christina aurics can usually be sexed around 5-6 months.

Cool, I use the textured brown paper for my dragons. The stuff works great, no more more dusty sand accept for my baby bins. They have great service and good prices. We use them at work, that's how I found the egg crate.
good luck

maybe post some pics of your baby auric set ups in a new thread (im afraid this one might get burried before i have a chance to see it). right now i have my baby aurics in sterile containers, holes pokes and all (the tall ones)... i use paper towels as substrate, paper towel or tp rolls LOL and i put a small piece of cork bark in there too. i really dont care for the cork bark because it seems to bleed color but the aurics seem to like it,as they can blend into something, if they want to really hide.i keep my juvis and sub adult female basically the same way but i would like to see some other enclosures to maybe get some ideas. anyone ever use any pvc as branches??? or even to use as a sorta hide??? just wondering thanks in advace guys!!!!!
