How did I miss her an unexpected but exciting surprise late last night...

Croc 2-3 Oct 22, 2003 10:32 AM

The other day I posted what I thaught to be true at the time. Last night while checking everyone I was meet by feces at the bottom of my basement stairs. I know it could only be one serpent to leave the poop. So my search began & I found my Lab burm b/w by boxes of herp related items unscathed. I thaught the male had ate her b/c the cage was in disarray, he appeared larger then he normally does after a normal feeding, but somehow she just slid out of the cage. I checked the cage over & over to see how it was done but nothing to explain it except maybe I didn't lock the enclosure good leaving some give b/w the door & the side. The male was just to large to squeeze through or never tried. Either way I was the happiest person alive to find her alive after thinking she was gone for good. She is doing great. I've kept non-ophiophagus snake together for 7 yrs. & this was my 1st scare. I'm still mad at myself b/c I obviously missed a step in my husbandry but at least it didn't cost her life. Ok now ya'll can speak out I'm open for the criticism.

You won't get any criticism from me. I think you learned from your mistake, and I know how relieved you are to find your snake alive and well. If you've been following my threads over the last 24 or so hours, you know that I lost my big albino this week. I keep thinking that I'll walk into the snake house and find Alberta there in her cage like always, but it isn't going to happen. I'm glad you recovered your snake.

Orignally I was going to ask if it were possible that she could have simply gotten out, but it seemed that it would be so obvious and so I didn't ask. But in my 25 years experience with burmese I had never heard of anything like the initial account of her being eaten. But I always keep my mind open to any possibility. And I assumed that you had seen an enormous lump in him too which could only be her. Oh well, we all look silly, lol.

Large congradulations on recovering her. I'm SO glad for you and for her that she was not in fact eaten by her mate. That kept me up last night just thinking about it, it troubled me so badly. Glad to hear this man.
