using black/blue night lighting

Shupey Oct 22, 2003 10:51 AM

I was thinking of getting one of those black lights for my cage. They say that it lets you view your geckos at night without bothering them. I find the normal reptile light i use now during the day tends to be a bit bright. I also want to leave it on 24 hours to provide some heat during the night as my house temps drop to around mid 60 degree mark now in evenings. I use an UTP on the warm side which stays on all the time around 88-90. Does anyone have experience with these night lights and what wattage would i need to provide just a bit of extra heat on the cooler side of my 10 gallon cage (the side the light will be on) Thanks

i use the red light and also leave it on during the night when it gets cooler in my house. i use 60 watts, which keeps the temps between 82F - 84F during the night... when it's daytime outside, but it's somewhat warm, i use that daylight to regulate the day/night schedule and the red light to stabilize the temp (between 86F - 90F during the day) so I don't have to use my bright basking light (75watt). i live in san francisco so the weather changes drastically during the week...

so i think a 60watt red light bulb would be fine for your situation... i hope i helped!

ps: below is a pic of the red light on the warm side of my leo's tank... it's kinda bright coz i had my room light on
