What type of snake is this? *photo link enclosed*

I live in upstate South Carolina and found this snake while cutting grass. The tempiture was roughly 75 degrees and it was overcast. Please let me know if anyone knows for sure what type it is. It is approximately 13 inches long.

That's unquestionably a brown snake.

That look a little like and eastern garter. There seems to be too much pattern for a dekays snake
