Housing A PacMan Frog

thomas_dixon888 Oct 22, 2003 11:29 AM

Is a 90 gallon too big for a pacman frog? Also what's the best way to provide heat?, and how much, and how long? Besides the Aurita species, what's the largest pacman frog species? Also Can you guys post some pics of your pacman enclosures?

In my opinion I think 90 gallon is too big if i were you I would buy a 10 or 20 gallon tank and save the 90 gallon for something else.

I think a 90g is excesive for a horned frog. I'd get a 20g tank and keep it in there for life. though even a 10g tank might siffice for a smaller male (females get bigger.)
HFs are simple to keep, on a bed of several inches of forest bedding, eco earth or bedabeast (all are coconut fiber bedding.) A shallow wate bowl that the frog can easily enter/exit is also needed, water changed daily with dechlorinated tapwater. A few hollow log-type hide spots can be used but the frog might just ignore them and bury itself in subsrate anyway.
I would take the 90g and fill it with Oscar cichlids, but that's just me!

Yes, a 90 Gallon is probably a bit too large for your horned frog. Would be a b*tch to clean even if it wasn't. Try a 20 gallon if you want to get a big one going.

As for Aurita (the brazilian horned frog), there is virtually no way to get it. I work at an exotic pet store, and despite my contacts and friends in the trade, my search lead no where.

Ask Snakeguy about the next largest, he knows what he is talking about.

I have a horned frog & a dwarf pyxie. They're both very nice. Each is in a home made tank a bit larger than a 10 gal. with Ecoearth. I think they're both great frogs! Plus the Dwarf Pyxie will only get about as big as the horned, so it's not going to be huge.
