stkkts Oct 22, 2003 12:37 PM

not that I would, or could do it, but is it possible? Has it been done? Are they even the same family? Thanks.

They are in the same genus but different species so it may be possible. I can't see why anyone would want to however as folks keeping these species are working with limited bloodlines anyway and it seems like it would only degrade the value of some really expensive snakes.

I would buy one

Also wouldn't crossing strengthen the gene pool of the two since they are unrelated?

While I'm sure some folks would probably buy them I feel that both species realy would stand nothing to gain from the cross.

As far as strengthening the gene pool I can't see why since neither has really been bred to the point of needing such as well as the fact that it would contaminate more so than strengthen. If anything what would help is more wild blood introduced into them but that wont be happening.

But how do you think MOST of the ones in the country got here to BEGIN WITH!! New blood is just a matter of someone who is brazen and has some cash to burn. It's MUCH easier than you think. I would contend that for every one box they intercept out of OZ there are 5-10 that make it to Germany, Holland, The US, England, California (not really a part of the US proper, sorry Bluerosy couldn't resist. Hope you had a good show in Tampa, will call you soon) Sure, it's not as obvious as it once was after Tom & others actually got jail time. But the "impossible to obtain" stuff still arrives every year!

No offense taken and I fully agree that mucho stuff winds up here that isn't supposed to.

Although I still think crossing them would be a waste.
