Mercury vapor bulbs

sk8erdude360 Oct 22, 2003 12:40 PM

I need to know if it is ok to use mercury vapor bulbs for my little dragon. He is almost three months and the breeder said it is a good product but I have heard they can cook your dragon. I just want to knoe if anyone with experience knows. Thanks!

I've done some UVB research on some mercury vapor bulbs. Even though I'm not finished with my research and testing, I believe the Powersun's are the best bet for your money. They last and they provide a great amount of UVB and heat. The cheapest place to find them is at www.reptiledirect.com.

The only way to "cook" your dragon is to give it too much heat. If the mercury vapor bulb is too warm, just lift it up a bit from the basking spot until you get the desired temp.

P.S. To view the results of some of the other bulbs I am currently testing, please visit my site below...

The next time you measure a flourescent, see what the difference is near the ends of the tube? I read or was told (somewhere) that most of the UVB output is in the middle of the bulbs. I'm just curious as to how much less it is near the ends of the tube.
Thanks GF
