OK Ross of LeosAnonymous - this is what I expect next season . . .

powergeckos Oct 22, 2003 01:24 PM

. . . I was putting together my breeding group lists. Got my mel project (which is going no where without a decent male!) - I got my tiger-stripe (which could be very cool indeed) - my fru-fru tangs (how sad that I decended into this! sinfulness. LOL) - I got a little special albino/mel project brewing (which also could be cool - about 3 years down the line) - cresteds - gargoyles . . .

. . . then I have my STRIPES, my precious stripes - which comes to my expectations and point of this post . . .

I recently purchased a special leo from Ross - a leo which contains all my hopes, all my dreams - and I will be sorely disappointed Ross, if I do not produce FLAMING BLACK STRIPES!!!

Oh yes - this is my dream Ross - big bold BLACK stripes silhouetted with BRIGHT RED FLAME-AGE!!! The first HOT-ROD leopard Geckos.

Hey - a man can dream, can't he . . .

Hey Monte,

That gives me goose bumps just thinking about it... a sweet project for sure.

I told you about how I was going to do some crossing of the striped lines myself... it's going to be an awesome project.

And I thought you didn't want anyone to know you bought another "fru-fru" morph... I hadn't told anyone, but you sure just blew your cover, lol! =)

If you're gonna create 'hotwheels' leos, make sure you breed a few of them to race around a little track.

Don't think they'd take too well to the 'Destruction Derby' track I used to own though...

. . . is the time for dreaming. You look at your stock - make up your pairings/colonies - and dream of what might be.

That - in my opinion - is what makes this hobby so much fun. It's cool to produce - but it's even more fun to speculate, try and try again.

Last year, my mel project was a disaster, if you looked at how many mels I did NOT produce. But we sure had fun with them - esp. when some snow-looking leos hatched, and we joked about it on this forum.

Trying - speculating - dreaming -and sometimes even producing - that's what's so cool about this hobby. It ain't about getting rich quick - I think that's more of a fluke than anything else - it's about taking care of these wonderful animals and trying to release all their colorful potential.

I sound like a poet!!!

I wouldn't put the possibility of producing past you... it might take a couple/few generations, but I would bet you will have a little hot rod poking out of the egg one day.

We all know you have quite the amazing group of stripes at you disposal.

Talk to you later.

I love working with leopard geckos, I really do. The coolest thing about them that I love is watching them grow up to see what they are going to look like as adults.

I also love waiting and waiting for those eggs to hatch to see what comes out. I feel like a young girl again at Christmas time just waiting to open all those presents. It sure feels like Christmas time to me when all those eggs begin to hatch.

I only wish all of you could see my reaction when they hatch. You'd all be laughing histerically! I jump and and down in pure joy like a little girl and I get overly excited! LOL, what can I say I love it, and I have a HUGE love for animals, not just for reptiles, but all the furry ones as well.

It isn't about the money for me. I have such a passion for leopard geckos that I cannot wait to see what I am going to produce in the future. I have many dreams just like some of you.

Keep your eyes on the forum as I will be posting pics of some new surprises very soon. Some will even be on the forum this week hopefully if I get around to it! he he he

. . . that hot-rod name is pretty cool. LOL.

Now all we have to do is actually produce it.

Now please pass the animal-sensitive paint gun - I have work to do . . . LOL

Hello Monte,

I consistently see your name associated with normals and normal/designers on the boards, and well ... the no fru-fru sig says a lot.

You mentioned working on a melanistic project. I was wondering where the melanistic morph stands? (Not only your efforts) Is it already out there, or still a work in progress within the hobby?

I'm interested primarily in black and white. My colony is relatively new (normal patterns, but undoubtedly a heterozygous cocktail), and I've only recently returned to leo's after many years away. I will certainly be following posts with regard to your stripes and tiger-stripes. Best of luck with your projects.

Thanks for your nice words.

Right now, a lot of us have what could be called "hyper-melanistics" - predominately black spotted leos - more spotted than normals, but not totally melanistic. The problem is - reproducing it. You end up getting a TON of normal geckos - I mean a TON of them - and maybe one out of 10 might be good. My best luck actually was with an albino male with the mel females. I'm always on the look out for a really dark male.

Ron Tremper had some of the darkest leos I had ever seen. (I saw pictures, and they were jet black with sort of stripes, if I remember). They ended up dying over Daytona one year due to a careless employee. They were the best I've ever seen in my life.

The tiger deal should be pretty cool - I think I could have a pretty good line on that in the near future, but again, time will tell.
