I have this little rattler.. I caught it in N.E. Az. and at first I though it was a babay wdb but I started to second guess and thought it could be a mohave... I talked with a few people and they said the scale count inbetween the eyes are 2-3 for mohaves and 5-6 for wdb... This little guy has 4, my luck... Hybrid? or just an odd wdb?
thanks for the help... (is about 14" long, with a string of 4 rattles)

The rings on the tail and the color/pattern looks like an Atrox. They usually have a more dusky/mottled look to their diamonds and of course wider black bands on the tail. If you could take a picture of the side of his head or just look at the stripe behind the eye. If it does not intersect the mouth then it may well be a hybrid, Atrox it will, Scut. will not. Hard to say for sure.

It is pure atrox. I'd be willing to bet that he's from the Val Verde co Tx area. From what I understand as well as from what I've personally observed, that locale is typically lighter in coloration. Nice snake either way!

Sorry, I'm tired and I didn't read that you already had locality data on that snake. LOL. Definitely an atrox though. Looks similar to the Juno Rd. locality specimens I captured this year.

I did make a mistake on my orginal post I found it in N.W. Az not ne And I was so sleep deprived I dont even rember if it was Az or SW Nevada... It was a 4 day road herping trip, we went from Portland Or to Tusan Az and back in only four days so it's a little hazy...

atrox are not found in N.E. Az to my knowledge unless there is some undiscovered population on the Navajo Rez.

Clearly atrox. No hint of scutulatus.
