A feeding question for everyone...

cv768 Oct 22, 2003 03:15 PM

Okay, now not to start up a fuss but this is they way I've been feeding the dragons for the last 4 years...criticism is welcome.

I feed them pinheads when they are born and offer them vegetables from day one. (mushed)

Then once they are old enough (almost a year) as long as they are healthy I slow down on the crickets. To almost only 2 a day. And they are offered a large variety of vegtable always dusted with calcium and vitamin supplement.

Once they get to about 2 years I think it is a good thing to only feed them vegetable and cut them off of crickets unless for a treat once in a while...or even a pinkie mouse for extra fat if they need it.

I don't know if others agree or strongly disagree but with my experiance with the dragons once they are full adults I find they do much better on a vegetable diet with proper vitamin supplement.

The dragons seem to get bigger and bulkier with only vegetables and the vitamins. I actually did a test and took two dragons relitively the same size and seperated them one I continued to feed crickets normally after the first year and the other we took off of crickets slowly. The one off of crickets turned out looking fuller, healthier and longer. Also more vibrant coloration.

We've only tried it once so the experiment isn't all that reliable but I've heard from many other people to do the same thing.

What do you all think??? Any insights???

My sub-adult and adult dragons get fed mostly veggies and pellets, and superworms 3x a week. I supplement my veggies with the sandfire superfoods diet distributed by t-rex. It eliminates the need for separate calcium and vitamin supps. It is a complete food in itself, it's just in powder form. The veggies are just a delivery method for the food. There is a cricket dust, veggie growth dust(more protien), and veggie maintanance formula. It is a great product that would lend itself to the wat you feed your dragons.
good luck
