Intestinal Tract coming out of my turtles tail???? help!!!

suzyq Oct 22, 2003 03:19 PM

Hi, Just a few minutes ago something large and dark came out from my turtles rectum and then retreated back in. I researched and read that an intestine tract can be pulled out by small bits of gravel, but I dont have anything small in the tank that she could eat. The last time she ate was the day before yesterday and that was Reptomin. She is about 6 inches long and I have had her for a year. Her temperature is normal and now she seems to be acting normal, except that she is showing no interest in food. Her water was cleaned 4 days ago and she has a filter. If anyone could give me ideas on what to do, that would be great. She sees a vet reguarly, her last checkup was this august, but when I called, the herp vet wasn't in and I couldn't get any information from them or the other 2 vets I tried. I am wondering if I should make her an appointment or maybe I am being totally paranoid and this is normal. If anyone has had experience with this, your help would definitly be appreciated!!!!

LOL!! SHE is a boy. He was just fanning. (Showing his penis). Nothing to worry about. You may have to change his name though! .

Do you really think so? Then I may have to change vets because mine told me she was a girl!!! The only thing is that she doesnt have long claws or the dented underneath shell. Is she too young to tell if she is a boy just from physical appearance? If she was a boy that would make me feel so much better because then she would be okay (or he). It's funny because when I got her I named her as a boy and then when i researched I saw that she resembled a girl turtle and had to change my thinking. It sounds like I may have to do that again!

I just looked at photos in the photogallery and I think that my turtle is definitly a boy!!! I don't mind him showing off his "thang" as long as he's healthy. Thanks so much!!!!

I am quite sure SHE is a boy. The claws are probably just starting to grow or are a bit long and just have not gotten super long yet. What you describe is definitely fanning.

As far as dent in the shell if that is what your vet told you GET A NEW ONE LOL!! Male sliders do not get a dented plastron. Some species of aquatics might exhibit this but it is more commonly seen in box turtles and tortoises. Definitely NOT in sliders.
