Hypo???....

lucy Oct 22, 2003 03:27 PM

Hi all I posted this pic of her about a week ago. I purchased her as a super hypo but the more I look at her the more I think bloodred outcross or something. She's just as red, actually a little more than the pic shows and her belly is red almost all the way to her head. I'm fine wih hypo, she's a beautiful snake I was just wondering what you guys think. Thanks!

She does not look like a normal Hypo. She looks way too nice for a regular 20 dollar Hypo LOL. I enclosed a pic of a Bloodred X Hypo outcross.. Yours looks way more red. I suspect it is a Bloodred or Hypo Bloodred. That is if the belly has no checkers. It is a drop dead gorgeous snake you have there.

She does have belly checkers but only the one closest to her head has black on it and very little at that. She also doesn't lack the head pattern like hypo bloodreds. I'm a bit stumped so for now i'll just say super hypo to be safe

Your snake looks like one of those Transparent Hypos to me... Might want to check the forums on that 'other cornsnake forum' for more info.

. . . to know for sure if it has bloodred in it is in breeding trials. I have hatched many snakes that color blend and have never been in the bloodred family tree. The belly can sometimes "hint" of bloodred origins, but not the markings or colors. What you have there is an excellent looking hypomelanistic corn. The super hypos tend to be more yellow. You can see what I mean if you take your picture into an image editing program and reduce the black. The result is either a lighter red than that or yellow. More of a straw color.

Having judged it that way, I will say that no two families of hypos are the same. I've seen 100 or more different shades of red or orange or yellow in hypo corns.

Nice snake.

That is a nice looking snake. Do you know the origin? I'm working with a hypo group that looks similar. Attached is a pic.

There seems to be so many different hypo lines popping up that we sometimes for get how many different looks there are in the amelanistics. If that's a motley, it exhitits blending from that recessive. If it's not, I can't tell which hypo. that might be. I have some from 15 years ago I got from Joe Pierce that look like bloodreds. From six feet away, you can't see their markings at all. Well, hardly.

Bottom line . . . . I couldn't say which line that one is.
