does anyone have an idea on how to make a shelf for a 38 gallon reptarium?

What kind of shelf, like what will it hold? If it is something that is light enough, try treading some fishing line back and forth through the screen and create a kind of web shelf for it to sit on. You can get some of the braided "super lines" i.e. spider wire or fireline, that are very strong and not very thick, but if the object is too heavy I would worry about the line cutting through the reptarium's mesh sides and slashing a hole in it. I've never used a reptarium before, so I don't know how likely that would be, but it is just a concern that I had. Tell us a little more about what the shelf needs to do and this will help a lot. Good Luck!

i wanted the shelf to hold a potho plant near the top of the cage on one side or in a corner

It would probably be easier to hang the plant through the top of the cage. Lay a pole across the Reptarium frame on top, make a wire sling or hanger for the pothos pot, thread the hanger through the Reptarium mesh (you may have to cut a slit to get it through), and hook the hanger to the cross pole. You can make the sling as long as you need to and place the cross pole across a corner or wherever. If you want to make a shelf for lightweight things like dishes you could make one out of hardware mesh and wire it to the cage side.

Another idea is that you can unwind a few metal hangers and make a shelf by putting them through the screen. I don't know if a reptarium's mesh can hold this, but I have this shelf for my cage. My cage is made out of 1/4 inch wire screen and the hanger shelf can easily hold my reptirapids waterfall even when it is full. Hope that this helps!
