hatchling help

amchabot May 28, 2003 11:52 PM

I am new to hatchlings, and I think I have one with some problems. She hatched out last Tuesday, and had her first shed this weekend. Today is the first day I've been able to handle her enough to get a good look at her. Everyone says they start eating after the first shed, but she has no interest in the little crickets I give her. She is keeping both of her eyes shut, and it looks like the last digits on 3 or 4 of her back toes are turned the wrong direction. Are these injuries? Does this sound terribly abnormal for a new hatchling? I am planning on taking her to the vet in the morning, but I don't want to get there and find out I'm over-reacting. Any thoughts?

geckos toes are extremely flexible, i wouldn't worry about that however i would be concerned about the gecko not eating. Was it born premature? if so that can account for it taking time to absorb the rest of the yolk sack. However if i was you i would start trying to administer fluid (baby food water and crushed up cricket) through a blunt tip syringe, you can get those at petsmart in the bird section. I would also still take her to the vet to see what he says
