Testudo hermanni growth rate (asking again)?

Sohni Oct 22, 2003 04:19 PM

I know I asked this before, but I still need help in determining an appropriate rate of growth for a hatchling Testudo hermanni. One person did post a chart indicating that his Russian baby gained approx. 10-15 grams a month the first year, but aren't Russians heavier than Hermann's? All the searches I've done have not yielded any concrete numbers, just terms like "slow, even growth is best." That's good to know, but not very helpful. If I stay within the perameters of the Jackson ratio, is that reasonable? If anyone here can give me numbers, I'd appreciate it.

I have one that was born in April 2002 & he's now about a 1/4" bigger than when I got him. I trace my tortoise's outline in order to keep up with their growth rate, & this little guy is the slowest growing one I've got.

He seems healthy & eats like a pig, & I just moved him inside until next spring.
