That looks like a Pit to me. Probably a bullsnake or a gopher snake, but definately not a rat snake.
If you look at the prefrontal scales on this snake (the scales just in front of the eyes) it has two. Since bulls have 4 they can be ruled out except P. deppi and one other in the Baja which...like ratsnakes have 2....Frank
