Ok....stupid question

Demona Oct 22, 2003 06:33 PM

I know this is dumb, but...I've seen so many pictures of morphs on here (and I'm still not sure I understand all the differences between them,) but what would a 1-2 month old normal look like? I'm 90% sure that's exactly what I have since I just bought it from a local pet store, but eh, maybe I got something different. I've been trying to get ahold of a camera for a while now so I could just post my -own- lizard, but maybe some comparisons will help me. Thankee!

Awesome links, thank you.

The geocities one is over it's data transfer limit (I know all about that with my site), but I'll check back later and take a good look at all of them.

Thanks again.

Alright....I didn't really see much to tell me, so I did a quick sketch of him. I realize that since it IS a sketch, you probably can't tell much, but if anyone sees any distinguishing characteristics, that'd be awesome (the color isn't right...he's quite a bit paler than that, but not albino pale) Other than a normal, the only thing I could come up with was aberrant based on what I was looking at on those sites.

...I sure don't. Half the time when I click on it, it does work, and the other half it doesn't. Could just be my connection. Anyway, go here:

That's not a stupid question at all. Leos go through a lot of changes as they're growing up. I saw your sketch, and he does look like a normal. But depending on the intensity of his yellow bands, he could be a high yellow or even a tang (but coming from a petstore, that's not likely). As he gets bigger, you're gonna see his black bands breaking up and turning into spots.

I love my normals. They've got the classic leopard spotting, and it's always refreshing to look at them. Here's a pic of my big boy, Locke

Do you have a larger pic of that tank? Those rocks look really really cool

Petsmart just came out with rocks that fit together so you can build caves and ledges etc. I don't know if they are up here yet, i'm going to check tomorrow. I think thats a cool idea and i'm going to be redoing all of my tanks to be more rocky anyways.

These aren't real rocks; they're made out of clay. I put them together so it looks like they're one rock, and my leos seem to really like it. They crawl and climb in between both rocks. I got them from the local petstore, but I know Petco sells them. They're made from the same mold, but different material with paint.

Oh those are soooooooooo cool. I'm going to see if Petsmart has anything similar. I could make my own, i'm an artist at heart and love to work with clay, but i'm not totally sure what to cover the clay in afterwards that would be non toxic.
I don't have any pics of my creations on this computer, they must be on my old one. I haven't done much artwork in the past year (gotta work on that!!!). I want to create little polymer clay geckos and stick them to the edges of the new unit

I had also thought about using clay to completely cover the back wall and bottom of the tanks but again the whole non toxic thing came up.

Thanks for the pics, it helps alot

Hmm....I'm trying to think of something you could use on them....is firing the clay a possibility for you? If it is, well, you probably don't need to cover it with anything....the base fired clay should make pretty nice rocks. Though, I know that not everyone has a kiln just laying around... :P

Other than that, acrylic paint -might- work, but I'd be afraid to take the risk....and if you do that, make sure you don't use real cadmium colors because those are toxic for sure.

RedQuake Oct 23, 2003 09:35 AM

Typically i use air drying clay, or the Sculpey brand which i put in the oven. I don't know if i'd want to use the Sculpey clay as its not only expensive but i'm sure it would be toxic if ingested.

I've read about using a resin on the clay but i'm not familiar with that, nor do i know what exactly to use.

Its been one of those things have has created more frustration than i really need......and time is my biggest enemy right now, with not having enough of it to get anything completed.

Its not huge on my to do list right now, but after i get a few things organized it will be and i'll start looking into it more

Thanks for your help
