Pierson - greens

michael56 Oct 22, 2003 06:34 PM

Hey P, have you noticed any "new", non-moisture related blemishes on your green? I just dropped some minnows into their dish and (at least the one eating) shows two spots, one at the neck and second at 1/3rd down the body on the back! I have not removed it for a closer look yet but, the patches appear as white discolourations.

Some evidence of improvement in the little Brown AND the orange pictiventris (Hudson) though the top of his head continues to indicate damage (bleached scales) from earlier infection, HE LOOKED AT ME WITH HIS BAD EYE!
So, who's been praying?

The blisters on those CB Greens ended up being a fatal condition in both my animals. One died before I was able to get any SSD and the other seemed to have been internally affected by the massive blisters despite surface treatment.

The Greens in my collection now consist of a single female floridana I picked up at the Daytona expo. She is a large YOY and is most likely WC but she is doing fairly well at the moment - feeding sporadically but has no signs of any skin anomalies. I have treated her lightly with panacur.

I'm glad that your snakes are showing signs of improvement. It's definitely been a battle for you.

It is vaguely conceivable that if I had not had sipped so many amarettos this evening, I might figure out the encryption, YOY.
Beyond that, I've seen some improvement from time to time so I'm really nervous about being too optimistic. Is that an oxymoron or just a moron that does'nt know grammar? Anyway, once the little Green has fed, dried and settled I'm going to place a drop of vitamin E on each "spot". Though not an antibiotic, it does tend to accelerate healing of skin, etc. If the problem persists, then I suspect that the next regimine of treatment will be internal in nature, attacking the problm from inside out.
I have not followed any treatment plan so I don't know if the improvements are cyclic only or, due to the application of Gentocin (which I've shared with each snake afflicted with eye troubles) or, the Vitamin E that I've applied to each of the three snakes! Perhaps I'll know soon if the vitamin E is doing anything as I wetted the head of Hudson the pictiventris with it.
Viral, bacterial, fungal? I intend to find out (and KILL IT)!
When I put these snakes in cages I assumed responsibility for them and I darned well will fight for them! The sound you just heard was a gauntlet hitting the floor.
Besides, as horrified as I am, I'm also thoroughly intrigued with the prospect of learning something new.

Sorry...YOY means "young of the year". My Green is a good bit bigger than a neonate but was definitely born this year.

Good luck with the antibiotics, if you end up trying them. Internal treatment on such small snakes can be difficult.
