I wanna get an african bullfrog. They are so cool and so carnivoures. How big does their cage have to be?

They are very easy to keep, since you will probably buy a baby or juvi...a 10 gal is plenty of room. I have a male that weighs all most 3 lbs now and he does fine in a 25 gal. Keep in mind that the males are the larger ones compaired to most frogs where the female is the largest. This is not a sure fire way to sex a juvi, but look for the yellow-green throat, thats useally a male

General good rule is 20 gallons for a baby and a 50 for an adult. If given they space they will use it. Check out my care sheet on my site, the reptizone, listed below. Andy

I dont the african bullfrog would fully take advantage of a 50 gal, since all they do ALL day is sit there. lol Africans are so lazy....breeding and eating is all the activty they enjoy. After that... they just sit

I have had one for years...He does move around his tank. Granted he does bury himself often, he DOES utilize the full area. Besides, he likes the half land/half water than the set up with just a bowl. Besides, search the forum. Most people agree that a 50 is better. Petshops will tell you 10 or 20, but 50 is a much better choice. Andy

my african bullfrog is in a 125 gallon tank and he takes advantage of the whole tank. like andy's mine also enjoys the half water half land setup. they are so big that i think a 50 should be the smallest size they are in. it's kind of like a person being locked in one room all the time. yes they fit but are they comfortable. thats just my opinion though.

Didn't that frog used to belong to Mark, or was that someone else? IF so, have you heard from him lately. I havn't talked to him in a LONG time. Andy

Actually I have my adult male african bullfrog in a 40 gallon breeder tank and he does make use of it, in fact when he's on the move it's almost too small for him. So I would suggest no smaller than a 30 gallon for an adult of either sex, and thats pushing it.
