Look at the prefrontals (scales on head just in front of the eyes) Bulls have 4 (except deppi and one other from the Baja) rat snakes have 2,

I have two pure San Diego Gophers, one has only two and the other has partial lines between the two!

Me thinks you have the exception that ...means that maybe there is a bit of not so pure way way back????? It does happen but it is not the norm by any means.

I am thinking it's some kind of mutation in the blood line! I got both of them from the same breeder, one is a '02 with the partial split in the scales, the other is a '03 with no split in them! They are definately pure, and I am sure will prove out when bred to my other blood lines.

What would be cool would be if you had locality data on the orrigional stock (Don't we all wish...). There could have been the clue to the mystery.......Frank

Thanks alot for your help !!

I am quite new to the game of snakes , and this was my first pair. I have been totally bedazzled by this pair and i think you have come close to the actual identity of the snake.

I think tracking the blood line will be next to impossible as here in Mexico it is difficult enough to trace family blood lines (HAA!)

I hope in the future i can breed the pair i have and see how the offsprings turn out.

- Do you have any tips on breeding (age, temperature, methods, timing)

Anyway thanks again
