breeding questions

I was just wondering how hard it is to breed leopard geckos. and what is a good male to female ratio? i was on some sites and they are selling breeding groups of like 1.6 is that a good breeding group? or is it to many females for one male. and how many males can be kept in a breeding group? and what would a good breeding group be for a 75 gallon tank(4 feet long and about 18 inches wide)

Hi, breeding leopard geckos isn't that hard. Lining up homes for them is more difficult, especially if you're screening them and helping them learn. "The Leopard Gecko Manual" is probably the BEST single book out there, and unlike many it does contain a lot of solid information including a large study on incubation temperatures and their effect on coloration.

Only one male to a group. Only one male to an enclosure. Females can usually share, but you'll always have to keep an eye on them just in case one starts losing weight. If you figure 12" x 12" floor space for each gecko, you can keep 6 geckos in there without crowding them. The male can stay in if you like as long as there are at least 3-4 females... the females don't seem to appreciate mating attempts once they're gravid and the male can be pretty pushy. A lot of breeders keep the male separate except when mating. I've tried it both ways and if the group is mellow, I haven't had problems. Sometimes I've had to make a few changes of roommates to get the group working smoothly though.

Good luck to you, whatever you decide!
