Don't know what went wrong...

geekgrl72 Oct 22, 2003 08:05 PM

I posted awhile back about my leo not eating and ended up taking him to the vet. They sent me home with dewormer and some soft canned food to force feed him with. After the 3rd dose of dewormer, he started eating again, although not as much as he used to. Then after the last dose, he started eating normally and was eating crickets instead of just mealworms. Although he was eating crickets, I noticed that he was starting to lose weight and his tail was thinning a bit. After two weeks of eating normally, he shed and now won't eat again. I went and bought some waxworms in the hopes of regaining some of his weight and for the past two nights, he's gotten extremely excited when I've given them to him and he's eaten them readily. The problem is that within an hour, he regurgitates them. Everything with his tank is fine... I haven't changed anything since my vet visit. I don't understand why he's reverted back to being sick all of a sudden and now after a week of not eating, he's lost a lot of weight. If anyone else is having a similar problem (pet store said they've been hearing it alot) and has any suggestions, I would love to hear them... I'm scared that I'm going to lose him.

He's about six inches long. He's approximately a year and a half old.

If he threw the worms up both nights in a row, I would give him one worm and wait. I would call the vet in the morning. I am sorry.
I am caring for a sick one too. He ate 9 wax worms this weekend and then just stopped eating. Does he take water for you?

My girl, Ginger has been sick lately as well & once she recovered she ate normally, then started regurging everything she ate. Someone on another forum suggested at LEAST one week of spoon feeding Turkey baby food. I'm doing that now (Since Sunday) & she's doing quite well w/ it. She's eating it readily, is not losing weight or barfing & her stool is looking good. Try that.

Please contact your vet again. Tell him what the problem is.

Until that time, make sure your temps are high enough. Make sure he stays hydrated. Try giving him ONE small worm at a time. Nutribac might help also but please contact your vet.
