New "2 foot" Papuans.....lol.....more

Python_Jay Oct 22, 2003 08:28 PM

Hey,
Well I finally got my papuans and I'm extremely pleased...When I first heard how big they were supposed to be I was pretty disapionted (I was told 2 feet so i was think hatchling) anyways I opened the bag out popped a male over 6 feet (Papu I named him) and I was extremly impressed and proud of him, he was a rich olive gold with a nice slate colored head, even tho hes got a bit of a cold, a bit thin and kinda cranky, hes still awesome.Well anyways I grabbed the females bag and she was quite a bit heavier and out I pulled an 8 foot , freshly shed, amazing bright green with a blue-grey head papuan and shes jsut a sweetheart and shes fat......so shes gotta be eating because the importer had them for about 2 months. Anyways just informing you of my new family members.
Also does nayone know of anyone in cnada trying to produce them?...Or will I be one of the first.

Dude, there are a lot of jealous keepers out there right now. Male papuans are pretty rare so do it right and get the numbers up.

Yeah...what he said...
Man, I was having trouble replying to this...in all seriousness, thats great- more people need to get interested in these, and I'm glad you were able to acquire a pair. But yeah, I'm jealous, real jealous. If you ever want to...
Nah...keep us posted and once they are settled in give us some pics,
good luck and keep in touch

I do not know of anyone else in Canada working with them...so you may indeed be one of the first if not the first. (Though I may be at McGill next year for graduate studies, in which case there will be two...)

get so far off on the size of the animals? Weird! But great for you. You have some Papuans with good size to them already. You will notice that the males are sizeably smaller than the females even after alot of feedings. I don't think my two males will ever catch up to my two females. I have to get some pictures of the males next to the females to show the size comparisons. I will be cooling mine soon and I know that I just saw the pictures of mnlobrien's female ready to lay eggs so hopefully there will be some captive bred babies available soon. Good luck and I'm sure you'll love them. Here is a two year old picture of my first female Papuan. She is much larger now. I will post a picture of her from this summer in the next post.

I think it was mainly because either my boss didnt hear right or the words never came outta the guys mouth right. The male ate tonight.....They are settling nicely except since i wasnt perpared fer their size I didnt really have a place to put them so i gave them an empty 90 gallon and I had to heat it with one 100 inferred bulb and dome lol. So the colds are gettin alittle worse but I'm hopeing tomorra to go get a heat paid. The male ate...(he was they skinnier one) the funny thing is that I tried them on the same size rat as my 6 foot male retic and the rats are two big fer either one so the male ate one of my breeder mice females that only produced 3 babies last time so I'm guessing shes gettin a bit old anyways. The female is so awesoem I'm in love with her already. I hope shes a good eater like him.
And also you guys said you were jelouse........now how would you feel if i told you I am only 14 years old lol.

Anyways thanx fer ur responses.
P.s-Comming soon..more sumatran bloods, more high yellow ball python females, coastel carpets, borneo short-tails,timor pythons (i hope), white lips, macklots and savus.

there are several people in Canada working with them that I know of, including myself. I know 2 people with 1.3 adult groups another guy with a pair, I have a trio, and I'm sure there are a few others floating around in collections.

I'm 99% sure that this species has not been captive bred in Canada...so that may be something to gun for...that is if you can beat me to it!

Aren't papuans addictive!
