Breeding Auriculatus

I know that aurics breed Dec-Jan. Can you have a cool down period and throw them into a breeding cycle like other reptiles? If so, do you also cut back on feeding?

Ok...now I am getting confused. All thr care sheets that I have read about aurics say Dec-Jan breeding season. Then I came across another post that says you can breed year round, with no cooling period needed. I also read another post about incubation. It said you dont need a incubator, just put the eggs in a safe place and let them hatch out, but what about humidity...or the temp variance in your house. I have a top of the line incubator, and it will hold a steady temp and humidity level. If I could get that new book that recently came out I would, but when you have just paid for a trio of aurics....gotta wait till the next check!

Hey,
If you keep aurics together all year they will breed all year. However I do not recommend that as the females can easily over exhaust themselves, taking a toll on there longevity and future offspring. They should be separated or cooled (to stop them from breeding) for 3-4 months in order to replenish lost weight and nutrients. If you do that around Dec-Jan you can reintroduce them or slowly bring temps back up. Although you can really do this anytime during the year Dec-March is the usual.

As far as incubation goes, you can use your incubator no problem. Some people like to just place them on shelves in their reptile room. The slight fluctuations in temps could give you a good mix of females to males. Prepare your incubation medium of choice and place it in a Ziploc container. Put the eggs in there and make a small hole (about 2mm in diameter) in the side of the container. Now put it either in the incubator or on some warm shelf in your house. Best of Luck.
