Grayband advertised on Grayband classifieds....

Ric Blair Oct 22, 2003 09:31 PM

Check out the grayband advertised on the classifieds by Island reptiles. The head shape is wrong, the banding is wrong and the color is wrong. It has got to be a cross. That is the problem with the crosses out there. They eventually get back into the mianstream and are sometimes sold as pure as in this case. Take a look at the picture and tell me what you think...Ric Blair

Ric, I can't make out the head very clearly, but I agree with you on the color. I would guess greeri, or maybe even pyro in the mix....
Specimens such as these only validate the arguement for locality breedings. A month or so ago there was a lenghty thread concerning "hybrid" breedings. I suppose that's fine, for your own personal enjoyment. But you're exactly right, what happens when they either knowingly, OR unknowingly get thrown back into the mix!?!? The individual who crossed the animals may represent them honestly when selling them....but is the next guy going to do the same?

I'd be very surprized if there was no triangulum influence in that snake.

Ric, thank you for the heads up...It is a shame that this has become a problem (and it has)...Thanks again Ric;

I am in the process of purchasing one of them. What is wrong with them? You mention color and shape of head. I'm buying just as a pet not a breeder and I can't beat the price of $30. The guy selling them has alot of great feedback over at [bleep].com. So is this something I should be worried about?

Absolutely nothing if your purchasing it as a pet. Its a great looking speciman from the photo and you can't beat the price. What concerns Ric Blair and other alterna collectors/breeders like myself is that it looks like it could be a "heinze 57" as far as its recent ancestory goes. Of course without seeing it in person we can't make a definitive statement but it sure seems like it is not a pure alterna. Then again the great Frank Retes and Hugh McCrystal maintain there is no such thing as pure alterna anyway so what the heck. Buy it, enjoy it and don't worry about whose its ancestors were. Good luck, Brad A
