Shell slime on a Star?

cod6545 Oct 22, 2003 09:39 PM

Hey- my male Indian Star had RNS for a while, but now he's over it. Over the past couple days though I've noticed that the bottom of his shell is extremely slippery. It's like lotion on a pencil. Really clear and shiny. It actually seems to be coming out of his shell. He's still in quarintine, and his bedding is a perfectly dry and neat towel. I can't figure it out. Any suggestions? Thanks. Brooks

Is there any redness visible under the keratin layer?
Possible causes could be Septicemia or Fungal infection.
I would strongly recommend getting the animal to the vet as soon as possible since at least one of the possible causes has the potential to be lethal rather quickly.
Best of luck
