i want to upgrade my tegu's living space within the next few months... he's about 16" now and i want something that will last quite some time... i'm slightly limited on space right now and i don't mind upgrading again in the future when space won't be a problem (i do plan on having a 7 foot long tank when he's fully grown)

height isn't a problem so i'm looking for/to build something that has a few levels, i can go as long as 3 feet until he outgrows that space and i rearrange my room

if someone has some ideas or building plans i'd love to hear them

I don't think a 3 foot cage is gonna last very long. My male grew from 14" to over 3 feet long in just 4 months. He's currently in a 4 x 2 foot long cage that is too small for him (see pic) and I will be building his 7.5 x 3 foot cage in the next month or so. I guess if height is no problem, make it multi-level - a Tegu townhome if you will.I would put at least two different levels in with his basking area on top and a good thermal gradient on the lower level. I would also put lots of burrowing material in the bottom level and at least two ways to get to the upper level(s). I would also make the upper level(s) go all the way across the width and depth of the cage, not just shelves. I would also plan on making it at least 3 feet deep if possible - that would certainly help with floor space and will hopefully keep him happier a little longer. Good luck!

ok then, you have a point about the rapid growth, so i suppose i'll just go full something that will last til he's fully grown...

it would be at least 6' long, 2' high, but i'm not sure about the depth, would 2' be ok? i'd have him out a lot when grown so i don't think he'd be too cramped but i could be wrong, i've never had a full grown tegu before and i want him to be comfy
