New Corn snake owner, seeking advice.

tray Oct 22, 2003 10:32 PM

Hola and salutations.

My girlfriend just recently purchased a baby corn snake. It's currently eating pinkies once a week, has a 20 gallon enclosure, heat pad / lamp on one side, water dish on the other in aspen shaving for substrate (recomended by the pet store).

I'm trying to research as much as possible and came here to see if theres any good fan sites out there with good information. She and I have raised beardies and moniters before, but this is our first snake. Any advice for first timers? Thanks for your help. =)

Sounds like you are doing pretty much the right things, the enclosure might be a bit large for a baby corn, but it should be ok.
Make sure you take it out and feed it in a smaller container such as a rubbermaid shoebox so it will be sure to find it's food. If you read the post on here and ask questions you will learn a lot, everybody is pretty helpful.

It's also good to feed them in another enclosure to prevent them from ingesting substrate.

Sounds good just make sure your tank has a hide on the cool side also. Also make darn sure your top is escape proof.Any gap and you can kiss it goodbye.Corns are alot less labor intensive than beardies or monitors. There a great snake to start with...Paul.

corn snakes seem really good at hiding in aspen shavings...twice now I thought my snake escape only to find him after dark still in his cage. This is after shifting through his aspen several times in what I thought was a throughout way. Are we sure corn snakes don't have super blending powers?

Amen. How many times have you freaked out. I swear they can disappear just long enough to freak us out.

Thanks for the advice. =)

Personally I've always had a phobia of anything that doesn't have legs. But I've been handling the corn snake a little bit when she has it out, and I think I'm going to get a snake as well.

Anyone know any good websites with pictures of these guys and or care sheets? Thanks for your help.
